CAST PROFILE

“A Alegria (The Joy)” is a film constructed by the intense collaboration between the filmmakers and a cast consisting mostly of non-professional teenage actors. The process took more than 2 years, including extensive workshops and rehearsals. Tainá Medina (Luiza), in her film debut, is the 16-year-old girl who leads our group of four young utopist protagonists. Newcomers Flora Dias (Marcela), Rikle Miranda (Duda) and Cesar Cardadeiro (Fernando, the only one among them with TV and theater experience) complete the group. Also starring is Junior Moura, Felipe Bragança’s cousin in real life, playing Luiza`s mysterious cousin João in the film. To complete the cast, the directors invited three well-known and respected actors from stage and screen to play the adults: Mariana Lima (recognized as one of the best actresses of her generation), Marcio Vito (who starred in “Eye of the Storm”, shown in Cannes 2009) and Maria Gladys (the mythical actress from the Brazilian “underground cinema” of the seventies).
